Propellerhead Newsletter

Summer is drawing to a close. Up here in our little northern corner of the globe we are putting the finishing touches on Reason 6, Reason Essentials, and Balance. September will be an exciting time for us all. New features, new hardware, and certainly new music! But the excitement doesn't have to wait until September because we've got some cool stuff for you to check out this month.

In this issue:

  • Artist Feature: Kirsten Price
  • New Refills in the Prop Shop!
  • Streamworks Complete Reason Training, 50% off
  • Berklee Music Online Fall Term
  • Straight From the Interwebs

Artist Feature: Kirsten Price

When she says "I think most musicians are just junkies," Kirsten Price isn't identifying with the likes of Sid Vicious. The high Kirsten is chasing is the one she gets from finding the perfect chord or top line for an undeniable hook. Signed to Sony Records in 2007 and subsequently releasing albums on her own label, KPI, Price has defined her career as a producer through the world of television publishing placements.

Originally from London, England, Price has called New York home since 2001. She has tapped into the varied music scene and influences all around her there and it's instantly apparent in her sound.

We met up with Kirsten at a studio in Los Angeles to check out her latest project.

New ReFills in the Prop Shop

When Reason 6 arrives next month you'll have tons of new features to try out but why not stock up on some extra loops and sounds to try them out with?! We've added new Refills to our shop with sounds ranging from hip hop, to dance, to hand percussion, and even ambient forest textures.

Nucleus SoundLab Pantheon Bundle

Get all three ReFills in Nucleus SoundLab's Pantheon series at 30% off with this bundle! Includes Pantheon, Pantheon II, and Pantheon III for Reason: Nearly 600 unique Combinator patches, 779 Thor patches, all patches fully mapped and documented.

Sample Magic Indie-Dance

Sample Magic serve up 560+MB of discofied debauchery, mashing up lo-slung indie guitars, phunked up French synthery and Nuyorican disco beats, drum hits, FX and more. Featuring a sweaty selection of disco-trash, electro-thrash and indie-smash, Indie-Dance packs in 100s of guitar hooks, distorted leads, retro-electro beats, livewire drums, twisted vox cuts and FX, plus 374 live-infused drum hits and chord shots.

Sample Magic DJ Chus and Stereo Productions

Sample Magic proudly presents Spanish tribal-house wizard DJ Chus, with 350MB+ of 125bpm pumping Balearic beats and sun-soaked rhythms, mashing primetime Ibiza workouts with classic afro-latin rhythms to devastating effect. Congas, bongos, djembes, whistles and samba ambience all abound, with subtle nods to classic tech-house and driving techno.

Nucleus SoundLab Pantheon III

Nucleus SoundLab proudly releases Pantheon III, the next evolution in their series of ultimate Thor ReFills for Propellerhead Reason 5. Pantheon III expands on the concepts and standards set by the first two ReFills with the largest amount of unique Combinators yet. As always, the Pantheon III sound designers continue to reveal their patching secrets with refined and detailed PDF documentation.

New Atlantis Audio Healing Hands

This addition to the beloved Physical Therapy series is packed full of one-of-a-kind exotic hand percussion sounds to take your Reason 5 music and scoring projects to totally new places. Using a variety of acoustic modeling hardware and software, along with an assortment of real live hand percussion instruments and drums, we designed a diverse and sonically rich set of tools to inspire your musical adventures.

New Atlantis Audio Forest

Following in the tradition of the acclaimed Physical Therapy series, this set of all new playable Combinator ensembles are some of the most beautiful sounding instruments we've ever designed.

The Loop Loft Hip Hop Drums

The Loop Loft has taken hip hop back to where it all started: with "real" live drums. We know it's hard enough to find tasty drum breaks in your vinyl collection (let alone, clear the samples for legal use), this is why we recorded an entire ReFill of loops and hits dedicated to hip hop production. Hip Hop Drums Volume 1 is a diverse collection of beats and samples, all recorded specifically for making hip hop tracks.

Straight from the Interwebs

Leo's on vacation this month which means we had to find the next best thing to his encyclopedic mind of Interwebs happenings. Fortunately, Product Specialist Mattias Häggsgtröm Gerdt stepped up with a few nuggets for you all.

Phuturetone's Amazing 303, 808, 909 ReFill
Why sample a vintage 303, 808, or 909 when you could meticulously recreate their synthesized drum sounds using Thor? Phuturetone asked themselves that same question, made a ReFill doing just that, and then asked one last question... why bother charging for it? It's free and it's awesome! Check it out!

Crossing Over to the Other Side
If you think crossfading is something you only do to audio edit points or on a DJ mixer, Rob from Reason101.net wants to set you straight. "Crossfading can provide an unlimited supply of variety and movement to your sound," and in his Thor tutorial he'll show you how. Read more on this tutorial Reason101.net
