Something to help when using ReWire 2008-10-21 18:23
I just returned from a trip on the west coast doing a round of artist interviews and one question that came up a bunch was using Reason ReWired to another DAW. A few of the artists requested a template to use to make the process easier for "stemming out" tracks created in Reason to their DAW software.
So... I made a template.
Here is the way it works...
I created 16 empty combinators that are used as "placeholders" for 16 tracks. The idea is that you use this as your startup template when creating music. To select a sound in the combinator... just click on the folder icon and make sure that you enable show "All Instruments" in the upper right hand side of the browser. Now you will be able to select any sound for the track. I also created 4 RV-7000's as effect "placeholders" to be used in the same way.
I routed each combinators output to a channel on the 14:2 mixers and also to the individual outs on the Hardware Device (Outputs 3-34). Same goes for the RV-7000's .. they are connected to Aux Send/Return 1-4 with the Aux Sends and Returns being routed to the 14:2 mixer in Reason and also to 16 outputs on the Hardware Device (Outputs 35-50).
The idea is that you can compose in Reason and when you are ready to rewire to your DAW the devices are already wired up and feeding ReWire outputs 3 - 50.
This template can be used when using Reason ReWired to any DAW application.
Hope it helps!

There is no way to ReWire audio in to Reason.. sorry! But.. you could always render out tracks from PT and then load each track into Reason as a sample loaded into an NN-XT. Then once it is a sample you just draw in an empty clip and the draw a note on the key that the loaded sample is assigned to (usually defaults to C3 on the NN-XT) with a length of the entire length of the the song.
If that does not make sense I can create a template which has this done for 16 tracks.

I've always had that kind of problem, when rewiring, i had to change all cabling from the mixer to the hardware controller!
This is a great template!
Thank's for that!

james,
when i use this template to create my song will all the effects i use in reason also transfer into my daw, in my case pro tools? if not, how can i rewire and print my individual tracks in reason with effects as audio tracks in pro tools?
thanks,

it would be nice if Reason had an export tracks feature like Melodyne, one button and all tracks are exported....

I can't get it to work, meaning when i add for example 'subtractor' in 'combinator 1' ... and try to use the piano roll in cakewalk project5, i can't hear anythng. What am i doing wrong?

@ Rafsan
It doesn't work that way.. what you do is browse for a patch or sound using the combinator patch browser (the little folder icon next to the patch name) and it will replace that combinator with the patch and device that you have chosen. Do not add a device into a combinator.
OK?

James is this the best way to use your TEMPLETE ? For example, In combonator (1) I just added a mixer effects, and a Redrum. Then I flipped the rack around and wire each part to ( kick, snare, hi hat ) to it's own mixer channel so I could have more control over each drum part. In Combonator (2) I would do the same but this time I would add a mixer effects and a NNXT. What do you think ??
