Farewell to Adam Yauch

posted by Tage Widsell 2012-05-04 at 23:19

I'm sad to hear of Adam Yauch's passing after a long struggle with cancer. Calling Adam a friend or even acquaintance would be a long stretch, but he was the first person in the Beastie Boys camp we were in contact with.

I remember how he first got in touch with us. Many years ago, he needed help with some weird installation problem and emailed us. Using a cluster of names and aliases for ordering, registering and contacting us, my fraudar went off and I sent him a barrage of questions about what I believed was a credit card fraud attempt.

I remember the reply from him: "Ok, sorry for the confusion. I'm Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys". It turned out that he, for obvious reasons, rarely used his own name online. All was well.

He stayed in touch every now and then for a few years, usually with some odd tech problem like when the custom ProTools keyboard he used for his studio machine didn't have the needed CD eject key that would let you switch between the three needed CDs during installation of Reason 3. Or it could be a more rock star-style problem: "Install discs in Miami, license in New York, recording in LA - what do I do?". He was always friendly, always cool and with no sense for time zone differences at all which made for some interesting night time conversations.

Well Adam, It's time to pass the mic.

It makes PERFECT sense that the Beastie Boys liked Reason :)
Peace & Love to Adam's family & the other Beasties.
those guys were one of my earliest inspirations.

I'm still feeling a little bit sad about his passing.
Strange but true.
I've grew up with their music and probably will go out with it.
