converting audio to midi notes

Dear Propellerhead Forum,

I have always wanted to be able to sing into the computer, have the notes converted to midi notes, and hear my original notes played back on any instrument of my choice.

I own the full version of Reason 6.5. Can someone tell me if this is possible within Reason 6.5 without having to buy anything else, and if so, what is the best way to accomplish this?

Thank you,
damienplus

1. Celemony Melodyne (for indirect conversion, but will also handle polyphonic input).
2. A pitch-to-MIDI converter such as the Roland GI-10 or -20 for direct conversion in real time.

Would be one heck of a nice RE! sound2midiRE :D

thank you ryszard

Dear ryszard,

Thank you! I will take a look at those. I realize that I didn't ask the right questions, so just updated my question -- what I am really hoping for is a way to do this within Reason without having to buy anything else.

best regards,

Are you sure you cannot already do this of sorts - not truly converting to MIDI but by using the pitch and amplitude CV outputs from a Neptune?

[edit] Peff knows! http://www.peff.com/journal/2010/08/...-cvgate-combi/

"Analog Pitch Follower [Send FX] | peff.cmb, is (snip) located in the Effects \ Pitch Processing \ Special Effects directory, and it includes ID8 sound modules triggered by the Neptune Pitch and Amplitude CVs." [/edit]

Convert Audio to Midi events just in Reason: Nope!
But you can use Peff´s Neptune Audio to CV/Gate Combinator ( http://www.peff.com/journal/2010/08/...-cvgate-combi/)
to achieve something similar.
TBH there will be some latency due to Neptune but if you record the synth (?) to audio you can balance it by moving the audio file a little to be on time.
Works pretty good IMO.

Edit: Redster was faster ;)

Redster930 and electricfusion - Great minds think alike and all that jazz. It’s nice to see members like you pull up Peff/Kurt and PhiSequence/Rob and other fine articles like that (and with Combi patches included).

Thanks everyone. The above combinator patch is useful. I agree a full fledged Pitch-To-Midi RE would be welcome, as would broader categories of analysis that could translate even more aspects of the input signal into the final instruments. Maybe one for the feature forums.

I hope you know vocals are extremely versatile in nature. Think of doing the same to a physical guitar chord.
