Monthly Music Competition (basschat.co.uk)

"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams..."

A quick heads up about a new monthly music composition competition over on Basschat. Details here:

http://basschat.co.uk/topic/185441-s...n-competition/

It's open to all styles and genres, and you don't have to be a bass player to take part - you just need to love a nice, well-rounded bottom end (cheap pun intended).

There's no prize, but the winning entries from each month are going to be compiled and released annually on CD.

FYI: Basschat is a great little forum for bassists and other musicians from around the world (not just the UK!). It's a very friendly community that welcomes everyone from complete amateurs (like me) to seasoned professionals: ranging from jazz players to live dubstep and dnb artists. It's frequented by a number of well-respected mixing and mastering engineers, so it's also a great place to get free advice on recording/producing - particularly if live audio is your thing.

I read that thread the other day - I may offer up a little ditty if inspiration strikes...
I've Been a member there for about 3 years (same name), although I've not posted much there for about a year - some great characters on there though....

^ Good to know there are fellow bassists on here.

My handle on Basschat is Skol303... long story. And my real name is actually Paul. Gets confusing, innit? ;-)

Should be a good competition if it hots up. I'm expecting a lot of variety in the styles, which'll make for some interesting listening.

PS, check out the Basschat group on SoundCloud if you're not signed up to it already:

SORRY to hijack this thread, but does anyone know of any other monthly music comps that arent on websites for bassists? ie more general, or strictly electronic?

No problem about the hijacking! The Air Marshals will be with you shortly... :-)

In the meantime, don't be too quick rule out the Basschat monthly comp just because the website has 'Bass' in its title. It's home to people of all musical persuasions: guitarists, drummers, synth players, DJs, electronic heads. All sorts. So you'd be welcome to join in, whether you play bass or not.

Otherwise, maybe check out this site that runs regular remix comps:

Or perhaps even start a competition here on the Props forum? Now there's a radical idea…
