Essentials and Guitar Rig 4

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help? I am extremely new to this, not done much recording before. I use Guitar Rig 4 to process guitar sounds but when recording through Essentials it just records the dry sound. I am aware of the routing options available on the rear of the racks but have no idea how any of this works.
I use a Behringer USB audio device with ASIO driver to connect to pc soundcard.
If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Glenn

You could start by explaining what it is you want, you just describe some issues but now what you want to do. Using guitar Rig in Reason is not possible. Or you have to use another DAW, one that supports VST's. Then you can slave reason in rewire mode and work with reason and guitar rig thisway.

But explain so we can think with you :)

Do a search for JACK or Soundflower.

You need two interfaces or an audio driver that can communicate with two pieces of software at the same time. The ASIO standard allows one.

I use GR4 and Reason. I use an AudioFire 4 for Reason and the Rig Kontrol for GR and I route a cable from the RK to the AF.

There's lots of threads on the software driver part of doing this with JACK or Soundflower.

Hi, sorry for the confusion. What I'm trying to do is take the processed sound from Guitar Rig and get Essentials to record it as it sounds. At present the recorded content lacks the processed sound from Guitar Rig ie it's a claen sound without any effects. I'm not sure why Essentials doesn't capture what I hear. Does that make sense? Sorry for being vague. I used to use Cool Edit Pro in the same way and that did capture the sound as it was heard.

Sorry for sparse details, I only started using Essentials a week ago and don't know if what I used to do is possible on the new platform.

Cheers,
Glenn

As mentioned by Storm above, you can do this using Jack and ASIO4all

This thread should help

Searched for those as well. Seems Soundflower is for the Mac OS only and works pretty well, and Jack has serious latency issues, though it can work in wndows, Mac OS X, Linux, and so on.

Does anyone know of any success with connecting GR4 with Reason that works well using a PC?

I'm not seeing it, and I would be as interested as the original post request (only for PC only).

Thanks!

P.s. My work around is actually using another DAW, and rewire Reason which works qiute well. Still, it would be nice to stay at times in Reason to do this. Some day, PH will recognize this and allow direct VST plug in functionality.

Jack is excellent if you're on PC. Works really well.

http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm

or simply HW connect the OUTPUT of your GR HW to the INPUT of your Behringer USB audio and setup reason essential to use Behringer ASIO drivers as your audio card, this should work like a charm....

Ps. I notice Jack, soundflowers and Virtual Audio Cables, all have much more latency than siply HW connections, and are really really unstables for LIVE use, could they go good for studio recording, but NOT FOR LIVE USE. :)
