Kong could be better

I was hoping to change to reason and make use of Kong as an MPC type device but it falls short in a few areas.
If you're layering drums you need to be able to tune each layer so they all sit together. The envelope is a bit lacking as well. Look at other MPC style boxes, They have ADHSRs or similar while Kong only has ARs. The interface for the nano is so small. I wouldn't like to have to program big multi drum patches for that with velocity zones etc. Making one of those would take ages compared to other MPCs. You can't easily swap pads around. As good as all the modelling stuff is, if you dont have a decent full featured sampler underneath your pads it's not as cool as the competition out there

You can layer sounds by linking pads together instead of loading all the samples into one nano, I find it a much better way of layering in Kong.

Yes I found that and I also found how to tune the layers individually. It's kinda fiddly though, and I guess reason is optimised for playing sounds not for programming. I wish there was a layered NN19 under the pad instead of that nano. Right now I've taken the gate out and used a set of NN19s. That's an ok solution except control messages and automation don't make it thru the gate connection

The NN-XT is pretty versatile for programming/layering/tuning sounds, a much better option then the NN-19 IMO.
