Using samples straight from the soundbanks for my program

Hi

I want to use some samples from the refills for a game of mine. I do not intend to use it for financial gain. i.e. It will be for free. Am I legally allowed to do this?

Some sounds will be from my own patches but others will be straight from the refills.

Regards,
xmofficial

I think that is allowed. You are NOT making your own soundbank and sell or redistribute it.

Look at it like this:

If you would make a house track and you start only with a bass drum pumping at the beginning its also a sample straight from the FSB!

Oh I forgot to mention, as I'm here at work and rushing. It will be a very, very simple music production game. It's just for kicks, excuse the pun ;)

Thanks for the reply!

PS Even though I won't be making money off this I want a clear conscience.

Email the owners of any refills direct to ask or read the included eula!

Yeah, alot of sample creators have seperate licenses for game developers coss you basically use the samples outside of the context of a song. Not sure about the Props stand on this.

n0ahg and Dave are spot-on to play it safe if the ReFill is by a 3rd party. If you are asking specifically about the Reason Factory Sound Bank and the Orkester, then we can make our own music/game sounds/unknown cacophony without asking Propellerhead because we have the right by being owners of a Reason license.

Heck, they don’t even want a percentage of the massive fortune we make from our creations. It would be nice though to maybe send them a case of Dom Perignon for their Friday afternoon office parties.

He's right! The gas in my car should also be free!

I'm joining the "All for free" movement!
