How do you compose?

Do you start with drums first? Perhaps a soft pad? Or a synth lead melody?

Share your methods!!

Every track starts different, sometimes some drum is inspiring and you start building on it, other times you play a nice melody that you want to work out. Once you have the first things layed out i think things become more generic, other then you might choose to start getting the sound to sound good and some people choose never to do this until they are finished. Then they mix it master it and release it. Maybe your question should be more specific?

I connect Matrix to a synth and start selecting a few notes. The few times something interesting evolves I continue.

I start with the inspiration which could be absolutely anything... a subject/title, a beat, a sample, a riff, a simple bassline, patch design..... and the list could go on
You can start with whatever, for me it's usually the beat or a riff. If I have a little creativity block then I'll probably make some patches and see if any of the sounds trigger that inspiration.
Just let the music flow whatever you start with, it will all come together in the end anyway
