This tune originally began as part of a long series of tunes specifically written for my favorite RPG video game called; Drakan:The Ancients' Gates

This tune was originally titled "Andrellian Isles Pt.4...but then a guitarist friend of mine who I had done many collaborations with, asked if he could use this tune for a meditative, chillout album he was working on & once he got involved...things got crazy!

This track is amazing!!! :)

You've convinced me that the newer Reason is a great product, so I may upgrade (I also started 4.0). It's expensive though, so I don't know.

I'm also going to look into this Drakan game. I'm an avid gamer too, and RPGs are my favorite genre. I think, as a whole, I've been more influenced by videogame music than other music, even though the single musician/band that's influenced me the most is Jimmy Eat World (I was obsessed with them back in high school, when I learned tons of their songs on guitar - hence, I know lots of chord progressions, tunes, etc. from them).

Anyway, thank you for this genuinely awesome track. I'll have to seriously consider getting a newer Reason product now. I suppose I have a question about that then... Can I convert my Reason 4.0 songs into Reason 6.5 songs? That way I could make use of new features on my songs made with Reason 4.0? And if so, is it a convenient process (like just clicking something that reads "update this reason 4.0 file to a reason 6.5 file," and it does it automatically)?

Also, I've been looking into foreign (non-western) chords and scales lately, and it seems like you've used some foreign (Japanese?) chords and scales at parts in this song (beautifully done too, by the way). Do you have any advice for using non-western chords and scales? Also, which overall chord/scale schemes did you use in this song (what I mean is just overall a.k.a. Shomyo, Ritsu, Riyo, etc. - I understand not wanting to reveal the exact chord progressions you used)?

Thank you! :)

Steve,

Inspiring you to not only upgrade you're Reason-but to also to buy the Drakan video game...is the absolute best compliment I could ever hope to receive....so my profound thanks to you for that!

If I remember correctly,I paid $169 for the upgrade to 6.5-which to me,is a bargain of a lifetime, because it's my main DAW now.
As for your Reason 4 tunes.....not to worry, because your songs will be unaffected by the upgrade,so they will be just as you left them & you can go about improving upon as you see fit.
That's the beauty of having a closed system like Reason(no universal VST support),so there's absolutely nothing to lose, when you change to a new version.

With regard to scales,chords & such...can't help you out there my friend,because I don't read sheet music,as I am strictly a by-ear musician....always have been.

I understand some very rudimentary aspects like certain time signatures, notations(enough so that I can quantize my work)....but that's about it.

In reference to the Drakan video game,it was released in 2002 and it was a highly underrated game...but it did pick up some momentum over the years & became somewhat popular.
I paid $30 for it back then and currently-because it's pretty rare to find a copy,Amazon has the game for $28.99(but it's well worth it,as it took me 2 years to complete the game)!
However though,if you peruse through the various online video game stores, you may come across a used copy(I saw one for $5 at a GameStop retailer)...but it was out of stock.

I sincerely hope you decide to buy version 6.5 & you snatch up the game while it's still available-because beleieve me,you won't regret it!

Thanks again,

-Thom

Woah! The upgrade only costed $170? Did they give a discount because you already owned 4.0 (or something)? I remember my 4.0 costing something like $400 back when I bought it, so I just figured whatever the newest version of Reason would cost around $400.

Dude....Reason owner upgrade discounts(as is the case with most,if not all DAW's),is common knowledge among regular DAW users.

I suppose then, you're not a heavy DAW user?If not....I recommend you immerse yourself into Reason 6.5 headlong...it's quite a trip!

Very nice. Never played the game you mentioned, but this track makes me in the mood for some Castlevania.
