Need help with bass sound

Hey guys how do I make that panning bass soudn right at the start of this song? I'm messing with Thor and all I've deduced is an analog osc and LFO > amp pan

oh and while your'e at it do you know how he gets that 'projector film' like sound effect to his songs? they make them feel dreamy and like a memory.

Sounds like he's also oscillating the gain and the filter very slightly as well and he's synced it to 1/8T to give it that off beat feel. As for that static sound there's a couple of ways you could achieve it. You could use the noise generator in Thor to create a static sound and give the sound a little saturation in the shaper. Alternatively you could find a sample of some static that you particularly like, play it back through NN19 but isolate it to one note using a combinator (Note if you do it this way you'll want to copy the amp pan/gain controls across to the static sample as well). If you've got any record players in your house you could always sample the static from one of them, they always seem to give the deepest crackles.

Good luck recreating it.

Thanks guys, still not sounding close though, his sound sounds smoother and more glassy, mine just sounds like a trumbone at the moment.

To be honest he probably spent hours perfecting that sound. Don't be disheartened :)

I tried your tip bro of using thor's noise>static oscillator but it just sounds like a high pitched crackle at the moment and not like his dreamy version. How do I go about getting it to there?
And also any clue as to what oscillators would work?

I've managed to get pretty close to the sound using the set up in the attached picture. If you tweak the settings there for a while I reckon you'll be able to get it.

Sorry dude its too small to see even when I enlarge it, is there any way you could attach the thor file?

Emada 2013-02-03 12:49
