Opinion(s) needed!!!!!!!!

At the current moment, I've been using Reason 4.0 (financially haven't been able to upgrade).
With income taxes I may be able to finally upgrade...question is, should I get Reason 6.5???
(is it REALLY as 'tight' as they make it seem)

Yes! Highly recommended! :)

The only reason I would suggest you didn't upgrade is if you're running a pentium 4 processor as the system requirements have got a bit higher as the technology has progressed. Other than that Reason 6.5 is so much more capable than older versions that it makes Reason 4 feel like a toy. The list of things you can't do in reason 4 that you can do in reason 6.5 is probably longer than the list of things that Reason 4 can do.

Demo it and find out..the jump from 4 to 6.5 is like night and day..unfortunately you wont be able to demo the REs with a demo, only the full licensed version..then you can demo any RE in the shop pretty much instantly for 1 month each.

Reason 6.5 is one of the best Reason updates available. I am also biased because I was not that into Reason 4.

its a good upgrade, but don't expect Reason 4 performance.

What kind of computer do you have, very important. If you've got a core 2 duo, upgrade your computer first before jumping onto Reason 6+

My core2duo runs it fine for most jobs

What generation? The latter ones are ok. but the core2duos from 2007-2010 are poor performers in Reason 5+

This completely.

The jump from Reason 5 to 6, all told, is......iffy. Comparing it to how other DAW behave and perform, its definitely becoming its own worst enemy.

Going from 4 to 6 will be a huge upgrade for you. The highlights:

1. Kong (more drum sounds)
2. OctoRex
3. Blocks
4. Recording Audio
5. SSL mixer
6. Neptune
7. Sampling
8. Pulveriser
9. The Echo
10. Alligator
11. The few free Rack extensions you'd get that available to all Reason 6.5 users.
12. 64 bit (able to handle more than 4 gigs of Ram).
