For RATT/80's Rock Fans: Free drum and guitar combinators

Hey,

I recently created a few 80s sounds based on RATTs "Out of the Cellar" and I thought I could share these and also maybe get some feedback from real RATT fans :-D I chose this album as a reference for the sound due to some PUF member "reminding" me of it in some thread, I don't remember who it was though..

Heres a short demo song where I (badly ;)) play the beginning of "Round and Round" to demonstrate the sounds in context: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l2ay9cnhw3...20Sound.reason

The center piece is of course Bobby Blotzers drums, so I made a drum synth combinator for that, the "BlotzBox" :-D Its 100% based on the Kong synthesis sounds except for the crash. (Thanks to adfielding for inspiration to do it like this via his video tutorial!)

Then I also made a guitar combinator giving you that typical 80's "screaming" "in your face", *not* "corny" sound :-) I call it "The Torch" and it has some nice combinator mappings to fine-tweak the sound :) The sound was designed on an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, so you might have to tweak with your guitar.

I appreciate any feedback and will also try and update the combis based on any (sensible) input. This was created for fun and I don't proclaim an exact emulation of the RATT sound here, just thought some might be interested :-)

Cheers,
Normen

Edit: Forgot I also uploaded the bus processing preset for the guitar sum: https://www.dropbox.com/s/436fiiglfl...sGuitarBus.cmb

Thanks for the combis Normen, I'll try them out later.

I'm a big fan of the Out Of The Cellar and Invasion Of Your Privacy albums so I'm looking forward to these. That twin rhythm guitar attack and guitar sound had me hooked.

Cool! Can't check it out now, at work, but my cover band http://www.wickedsensationmn.com does Round and Round, I'll check it out and download later, thanks!

Thank you! Happy you like them :)

You also have to thank the Props and Adam Fielding I guess, these moments where its all just a quest to the sound you have in your head is what makes me love Reason so much and Adam made me look at the Kong synth drums a second time after the initial "meh" reaction :) I really dig them now, I think I will make more such "styled" drum sets, you support that by (not only positive) feedback :D

Also the guitar was interesting to do as I normally rely on my Eleven Rack but I wanted to do it in reason 100% this time. Its a nice guitar playground actually, I can do more than I would have thought w/o my default tools :) I only use the cab of the Line6 module really, rest is Scream and Pulverizer plus some early reflection magic ;-)

Just tried them out and I'm impressed. The kit is very good with doubled snare sounding very nice. I'll definitely be trying this behind some of my guitar. The guitar amp is also very good. I think it's some way from the Ratt sound but you've got a very nice tone going there for saying it's only the Scream and Pulveriser providing the distortion. Much better than anything I've come up with. I quite like the tone it has on lift-off/palm mute. Again, I can see me getting some use out of this, thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Yeah, the guitars sound a bit more mid-y on the album but actually I think they already sound a bit "potty" so I left out that 1-2k resonance ;) Also the guys obviously play better than I do but I was quite okay with how far I could get, the combi nicely turns dynamic into expression like a real amp I find :)

Actually, I'd only D/L the combis and played them on their own. Just D/L the reason file (and the bus settings combi) and I think you've come pretty close to the Ratt sound. Very nice and good playing!

Was interested that you'd worked with Paul Dianno as well. Killers was my first Maiden album. I always liked his voice and style.

Thanks! I'll check it out as soon as I change over to the "Super Slinky's"

Thank you! I should have mentioned I designed the sounds on a Epiphone Les Paul Standard, updated the first post.

Yeah, actually Mr. Di'Anno was quite cool :) Given that he is the ex-singer of such a legendary band I was prepared for all kinds of things ;)
