PX-7 Patch question
I downloaded a metric kiloton of DX7 patches from the internet today and have spent a few hours
feverishly converting them to the format the PX7 can read.
No problem there, and I found a few nice ones along the way. However, I'd like to just save them with the default user patches but I can't. I'm assuming I'm just not allowed to do that, but is there a workaround? I don't really want to save them somewhere else.

Best thing to do is save them as a refill, it keeps them all in one place and I just put mine in the refill folder with all the others.
You can find some refills on the user forum from people than just downloaded, converted and stuck the patches in a refill file.

Thanks very much! Yeah, actually I was hoping to avoid doing that but I see it's probably the most practical way. I was just wondering why you can't do it?

To be honest I've never tried, I like keeping them in refills
There probably is a way to put the patches in with the user bank ones but I imagine it would be long winded and not recommended. The biggest problem I can see is, if you download an update (should Ph ever release one) would that wipe your patches off?

Well, that's a good point and something I hadn't really considered. I did have a look (I'm on a Mac) and I was able to find the folder where the RE resides but it's not editable. It's a dylib file.

You wouldn't have a link to that refill, would you? I think I'll die of old age before I manage to do it myself.

VillaNDubstep 2013-03-29 15:28

It was a bitch to find them with the search function but here are the threads to the downloads, some refill..some just links to elsewhere or single patches.

Btw, have you noticed a lot of the sounds are quite old sounds but this synth is capable of blasting out modern bass and lead sounds?
I was meant to try out rotor on the organ patches as well but forgot before my trial ran out :( I bet it sounds awesome though

You are a gentleman and a scholar, well ok, maybe just a scholar then. :-) The search function was next to useless for me. A lot of these patches are extremely 'samey' eh? They did say that the majority of DX7s returned for servicing had usually came back with the factory presets untouched.

I do wonder if people just tweaked a couple of parameters of an existing sound and moved on.

You're quite right. I didn't mean to sound like I was slagging the sounds off. I think it's always nice to recontextualize sounds.
