Multiple ToCombinator or "SideChain In" on combinators

Maybe I'm using the combinator wrong but when I'm creating combinators that have a compressor that uses side chaining I get the red evil "external routing" light. This makes them hard to save and it would be a nice feature to have the "Side chain in" option on the back of the combinator so that the internal routing of the combinator could be set up. I realise that the combinator is in some ways dependent on other devices this way but it would be easier to save them and they would be more reusable this way in my opinion. Any thoughts?

I unplug external routing and save, then plug it in when you create the new device (which you need to do anyway). :-)
