Rack Extensions : Quality Control (or lack of!)
Is it just me or has the quality of rack extensions dropped massively over the last few months?
Would you agree with me that the Props should introduce some form of quality control before the rack extension store is run amok with non-sense / useless products?
We are close to having another Beatport on our hands!
its not just you :)
for any user with different demands/exceptions, there are crappy and outstanding devices (shich differ indeed).
take those rant threads about RE's: too-few-functions, bad-look, CPU-hogs, or "useless" devices.
there are no REs with
-too few functions: as long a device serves the functionality it promised, iam happy it works.
-bad look: its a taste of art. i dislike 2 or 3 only. the rest fuses into the rack. its a bless.
-CPU hogs: close other programs? ^^
-useless: hm... ok, lets start: i <3 CV devices. most fun to play with, if you ask me.
quality control: its not about the technical approval, i suppose.. you mean the(ir) sound in general, dont you? waiting for experts to answer...
I bought Peff's Spacer, beacause its a simple idea to write notes and reminders on,lots of people raved about this as well as ReLabeller
It cannot be sold without some sot of numerical value,( after all ,we don't work for nothing, right?)But as I'm using Spacer a fair bit, so for me its its value for money,lolhttps://www.propellerheads.se/forum/...ons/icon10.gif
I would say having apps that arn't useful, or dont sound very good or whatever, are actually a good thing for the store...
REs like this give a range of products at a much lower price bracket than some of the more advanced ones, and this means that people can still benefit from the extra creativity that comes from a new RE, without paying the higher prices.
If you take an example from Apple's app store, there are all sorts of aweful apps, which arn't just not useful they plainly dont work (I have yet to have a RE that simply doesn't open etc). The Apple store however is very succesful because these small apps provide a low budget 'quick fix' option, and the more expensive ones are paid for by users who want something for the long run.
In short, all REs are good, and the demo and the rating system means that you will probably know what how good it is before you hand over money, if its rubbish dont buy it!! :P
On a side note, better store browsing?
Prop shop is like a real shop : you buy what you think is good for you without anybody qualify it.
Trial period helps too.
