reading that says something to do with OSX being built on Unix..... does this take us 1 step closer to Linux versions of more popular software...?

Id say its worth reading all this, though its a mamoth page, very informative and interesting.

yep.. common knowledge here, that's why 10.2 kicks ass and XP eats it in comparison

nope, props said no

Interesting....

However, as I perused the indicated article there was very little else I found to be NEWLY informative.

I have found WInXP pro to be the most stable M$ platform to date for media production. In that light, I will say this however, that if the user is NOT a computer savvy type of person who is familiar with how to mold and build a workable system from a default XP installation, many unexplainable issues can and will arise giving cause to much user frustration. I will further warn that using an internet facing machine with a default installation of WinXP does in fact not only jeapordize privacy but also applications running on that machine as well.

Hence, my observation is simply this;
If you are aware of the pitfalls of M$ products going in and you are technically capable of dealing with them to satisfy your intents and purposes (a totally achievable goal) it is well worth the time, effort, and monetary savings to pursue running an OS like WinXP pro for specific non-internet purposes like media production (audio, video, DVD, etc...). WinXP, in the right hands can provide a rich platform for media based applications and in some ways IMO even better than MACOS (any version). Im not knocking MAC's here or MACOS in general but the cost @ performance factor is still an issue between the 2 platforms and even more so for native *NIX based systems.

I will also add that I thoroughly support UNIX (linux, BSD) based versions of ALL media applications. It would be a grand thing indeed if we could all tell M$ to take a hike. However, XP (and win2K) at present are really the only platforms available that will enable use of the higher end audio/video tools available on Intel based systems. *NIX support for the great major applications like Reason, Cubase, etc. or even similar applications of the same quality are simply not available at an attractive price/performance point. One can hope though...

just my 2

I guess you mean Unix on Intel? :-)

If it wasn't for Micro$oft, Apple would have had it harder

bahaha...

This is good.
Springs is trying to learn new words!
Im impressed.
Too bad "ignantcy" isn't a word in the English language. Another language perhaps?

For the record I was not slamming MAC's here, and if you had read my original reply all the way through without getting personal, you would have known that. Try re-reading it and you might learn something little man!
