HEY PROPS!! EVERYONE WANTS GRANULAR SYNTHESIS!!!
HEY PROPS!! EVERYONE WANTS GRANULAR SYNTHESIS/PROCESSING!!! They just don't know it yet...
the same way they didn't know that they NEEDED ReBirth and Reason so much - BEFORE they had heard of it!
c'mon! you KNOW you WANT TO!

pitch shifter module
I'm really keen on the idea of a pitch shifter/corrector module. Something would allow for some realtime pitch shifting (anyone remember the Sound Blaster realtime pitch shifter that people used to make that stupid "wheeee" squirl voice?) as well as correct vocals and such.
This module could have several pitch shifting methods, similar to how Live has a variety of shifters. One of those shifting methods could be granular synthesis for sure. Maybe another could be a nice formant shaping shifter like Melodyne has.

yeah! i always wanted that... also a bit depth shifter so we could variably reduce bit depth - say push a sample from 16bit down to 1 bit and back - way cool!

yeah! it's just something very useful.

THAT is why i always include the Processor when i talk about Granular Synthesis/Processing...
because the Granular synthesis is SO awesome all by itself, but if you could process other synths and sounds that would be WAY cool too!
including the ability to shift pitch, alter timings (like a buffer override effect with the extended ability to also syncronize buffer lengths to specific musical subdivisions)...

hmmmm i'll have to check that one out.
i am always looking for WAY cool - super out-there effects with a huge degree of versatility...
melodyne and such
First off, I think the scream 4 already has bit reduction with it's Digital distortion type. One knob controls bits, the other controls sample rate.
As for Melodyne, check out the link below. It's probably one of the most realistic pitch correction tools thanks for the formant shaping which allows even long stretchs or vibrato to sound natural.

Re: HEY PROPS!! EVERYONE WANTS GRANULAR SYNTHESIS!!!
i really wish there was a good site to send people to so they could hear the outrageous things that Granular Synthesis can do...
like here is the sound of a baby crying...
now after we run it through the 'Grain Silo'
Wow! Cool! You've got to be kidding! that's the lushest pad i've ever heard...
Maelstom Almost THere
Granular Synthesis is indeed
I suggested a few threads ago, that all
they really need to do to add full granular synthesis in Reason is to allow good o'l Maelstrom to load ANY wave sample into it to be tweaked...
Not just the flutes and horns that come along...
It would work as a granular synth/sampler with truely unlimited capabilites...and a very good one....
Dont be Lazy ProHeads,
''Just do it''...
Re: Maelstom Almost THere

uh... no. =)
the Malstrom is a VERY limited Grain-Table Synthesizer as far as what is available out there...
the Malstrom would make a REASONably cool synth if they opened up to us the use of our own samples - yes... BUT it is a very limited 'Granular' synth...
i want the REAL Deal
Ab, Could you post something that shows what you mean?
You're making me quite curious as to the capabilities of this granular baby of yours. Do you have some kind of demo that can show my ears what you're hyping so relentlessly?
:Do you have some kind of demo that can show my ears what you're hyping so relentlessly?
i have some sounds i have collected/made... but they would be more convincing if i had the BEFORE and AFTER sounds...
eg: first you get to hear the source samples - then you get to hear the granulated/synthesized audio...
i'll be right back...
ok i'm back..
here're some examples - although they are NOT mine and i have different visions of what to DO with Granulation... if you have an imagination you can see the open-endedness of the concept..
keep in mind that even though the power of granular is wide ranging (and i bet you've heard it n the radio and wondered "how'd they Do that?) i have certain effects that i personally look for and these examples may not necessarily suit your ideal needs... =)
