That's interesting that you did Forked Bells in one shot, so quickly. It's really quite good. It makes me think that for you maybe a good way to develop fast is to force yourself to make a bunch of tracks one after the other without laboring over them or editing much. That way you can let your intuition flow and figure out your voice.
I say that because Forked Bells sounds so fresh... lots of cool ideas and I liked it better even on the second listen.
The book that helped me the most to learn mixing (and while I've come a long way, I've still a long way to go) is called "Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio" by Mike Senior. Great, great book. I finally got through my head how to give different sounds their own spaces, and to cut with EQ and almost never boost. It's been very valuable for me.
