I kinda agree with what he's saying, more emphasis should be put on improving the overall quality of the synths.

However, this idea that reason sounds worse than other programs is nonsense. If you know what you are doing and you know how to mix, you should be able to make professional level sound with reason.

It's only mp3 out of the box if you don't use all its features and capabilities, and even if you 'improve' the synths, if every amateur now has access to 'pro' synths, when they use those synths in mediocre arrangements and bad mixes, you are going to begin to associate that sound with amateur level production so ultimately the out of the box sounds will always sound cheezy.
