I've tried to practice the art of spectral mixing for some time now. My experience from it so far is rather good - the different rhytms in a track are much better separated when the instruments exclusively occupy their own frequency slots. But there is one little problem. The individual sounds become more thin, and this is not so good when your doing progressive tracks.
I usually let each instrument occupy a couple of different frequency areas, I feel the resolution of the EQ doesn't allow me to use much more frequency slots before the whole spectrum is filled up.
How do you practice spectral mixing? I'd be very happy to hear from you about your experience from this interesting area. Maybe we could share some tip's and tricks.
