New Use for the Reason Mixer 14:2

I was trying to isolate an effect on the my overall mix to effect only a few of the channels on the mixer (I used up all of my aux returns). So I created a new mixer, and started missing around.
I plugged the master out from the old mixer to the chaining master of the new mixer, and carried over every "right" audio input from the old mixer to the "left" audio input of the new mixer. Presto, I got a much louder "in your face" sound. I guess I just doubled up on the mono.

Can someone explain this?

Is this a good technique to use for a house song?

Is there any other use for having more than one mixer (besides not enough channels)?

Thanks in Advance.
