wave editing?

Is there away to manually edit wave volume to normalize or whatever it's called to bring up quiet parts, say for vocals in Record? Like you can do in wavelab? I heard you don't need anything else if you have propellerhead.

Changing overall volume of an audio clip: see manual pp. 165-166 & 197. Then start working with the compressor and expander in the mixer channel to even out different levels within the clip.

Indeed using the clip gain, input level and fader will get you louder peaks but it wont give you an average higher level. So it will make everything louder by an absolute amount. Compression can help you get your levels all the same but it can have unpleasant side effects if use to excess. I really dig parallel compression for drums and vocals to bring up the soft parts. The idea is to use one compressor (or not) to take a bit off of the loudest parts while using a second that just annihilates everything to the same level and then boosts that sound up. The result is all of the soft stuff becomes louder while the louder stuff stays the same.

The easiest way to do this is use an m class compressor as a send effect. Set the send level to 0db use the following settings on the compressor

Input gain Odb
Threshold -36db
Ratio 2.5:1
Attack 1ms
Release 250 ms
Output gain positive value between .1DB and Max depending on how it sounds.

BTW we are always glad to help here in the music forum but you may get a better response for tech questions in user. This is more of a music sharing area.
