Stereo Imager question
i`ve been checking out some mixes and it came to my attention, that this
producers sounds, apart from the beat, are more up front in the mix.
The first i thought was to mimic this effect with a stereo imager, perhaps i`m doing it wrong, but there are only 3 turn-knobs and i`m not getting the desired effect
I`m doing all my main lead/funk/whatever sounds (apart from the beat) with the dr.rex and when fooling around with the LFO panning from dr.rex i noticed that the sounds came in the same range as they are in alex-mind`s mix, but as the panning LFO makes the sound fluctuate from lef to right, it`s not exactly what i`m looking for, but does confirm that the solution may lie with something like the stereo imager, but again, i`m not getting my sounds in the frontline as im hoping for.
The stereo imager does seem to work, but only one particular sounds in my case.
I have attached my reason file, perhaps this makes it easier to help if you wish to do so
Thanks in advance.
*edit1: attaching a reason file doesnt seem to work, so i`m just using yousendit:
* edit2: the only other thing that just came to mind is to make exact the same dr rexes and pan one to the right and the other to the left.
* edit3: hmm, that doesnt work, the moment i pan one channel to the left and the second to the right, the complete sound becomes mono again ><

That's a cool beat.
Here's what I just did: duplicated the Sound Rhythm rex & filter, panned one hard left and one hard right in the mixer, added a delay to the one on the right and changed it to a 1ms delay, leaving the rest of it's settings alone.
Oh, also changed the settings on the bassynnth imager to bass -18, x-over 518hz, treble 63. Not sure how the interplay between multiple imagers works (there's one in the mastering combi) but it did make a little difference.
Is that closer to the sound you're looking for?
And it`s quite spot on; at first i thought you wanted me to add it through the aux, which doesnt work, but directly linking the delay on the duplicated octo rex works like a charm
Great! That was fun to pull apart and mess around with, to see how someone else puts things together.
I'm always up for that sort of thing.
Now as for music styles: I have absolutely NO idea what's what. I don't know the difference between trance and house, let alone progressive rather than regular or anything with the word core attached to it unless it's hardcore (like Black Flag) - I swear I need a glossary, lol, because right now I lump it all into one big group entitled "electronic," with maybe 3 divisions: "fast," "slow," and "wtf was that?" Those are each sub-groups of "like" and "blah"
Always been a simple classic rock guy I guess. Totally get the difference between Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and Asia though.
I gotta go find myself an online dictionary now
Cut & paste
Nu skool breaks
Trip Hop (aka The Bristol Sound)
Electronic art music
Nu style gabber
Chicago hard house
Dark progressive house
UK Hard house
Electronic body music
Jungle music/Drum and Bass
Drill n bass
Yorkshire Bleeps and Bass
South African psytrance
