Help me choose a pair of headphones

Hi all,

I'm in the market look for a new pair of good-quality headphones - I'm hoping the step-up from Beats By Dre Headphones lowriders to the high-end headphones to be immense... as it's pretty expensive purchase, and I'm wanting to make sure that I make the right decision.

Here is the Monster headphones I'm currently looking at. So any feedback on them, and suggestions of others, will be very much welcomed.

My budget is around £150. It will primarily be used on an iPod touch and laptop. If there is any further information that will be useful in helping you to recommend me a pair of headphones then please ask.

Best wishes.

Do you need them to mix or for listening?

If you need them for mixing, do yourself a favor and don't look into Beats. If you only need them for listening wait until the VModa 100 drop at the end of the month.

I have some beyerdynamic DT770 Pros. GREAT phones. Go for about 125-130 on amazon UK. Proper kit for mixing and production and fantastic for just listening. I second the above poster's comment. Forget Beats by Dre. All hype and WAY overpriced. Check for Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic on Amazon and peep the reviews. Good luck!

KFJ beat me to it. I have had the exact same 'phones for 16 years, at which point I replaced the ear cushions because I use them about 12 hours a day--8 at work (medical transcription) and more in the studio at night. For my money they are the best thing going, with immense power-handling capacity and 5 Hz-25 kHz range. They also have the best passive isolation of any headset I have encountered, about 21 dB, or the equivalent of an internal residential wall. Give them a try. You won't regret it.

I also have the DT770 Pros. Also look into the Audio Technica -M50. These are going to be my next purchase.

Don't but anything by Monster, that's for sure. If you are spending £150 then get some proper quality headphones. Something by Sennheieser, Audio Technica, Beyerdynamic. Any of those will be good.

Im willing to bet a £40 pair of Sennheisers will be better than the beats headphones.

I'm very happy with them

For DJ-ing there nothing like the Sennheiser HD-25

I use AKG K701, which is an open studio headphone.

For ipod etc. dt770 isn't bad either but does it give enough power to run the dt770 ?

You can buy a good headphone but if the amplifier doesn't have enough power you will not enjoy it much.

The high price on dre phones is just marketing and it works apparently.
If a hphone has this kind of fancy looks you can bet it's just a diversion of lack of quality.

But if you are a hipster ... buy two
