Reason File Error

Hey Guys!
I'm collaborating with someone on a project. He had sent me a Reason file, I opened it, edited a few things and when I emailed him the Reason file back he couldn't open it in his version of Reason. He got an "unsupported format" error from my file. Any idea why this would happen? Thanks!!!!

What version of Rain are you working with? What version of Reason if he working with? If you have a newer version you'll be able to open his Reason file but he won't be able to open your Reason files.

This would happen if you are using a newer version of Reason than yhe other person.
for example: You can open files created/saved in Reason 1-6 in Reason 6.5, but you cannot open a file created/saved in 6.5, in Reason 1-6.
Most software is the same - it is backward compatible, not forward compatible.

If you are both using the same version, is there some file corruption - get him to send you the copy hes has to see if you can still open that copy.

EDIT: Beaten to it.

OK, that's probably it. I'm in 6.5, and I think he's in 6. So he probably needs to upgrade.

Yes, that would be the reason. Luckily, 6.5 is free for Reason 6 owners so just direct him to https://www.propellerheads.se/download/ and have him click the big banner that says "free upgrade"
