what is going on with the new band splitter?!

i just tried the new Band Splitter RE

it changes the sound in a really bad way even if you don't apply any proccess..even if everything is set to 0.0 db..

its driving me crazy.. if i want to build a precision multiband compressor it's impossible to do so with this tool.
i dont want to change the sound of my tracks just by putting this device on

i checked it by taking a track, putting the splitter and use only the input->sum, and then duplicated the track and removed the splitter from the duplicated track
and then i reversed the phase

the two signals are really different
when you change the Slope setting, it gets worse.

from the RE description:
"Unlike other splitters, Yoko is specially designed to ensure a “flat sum” crossover for each frequency band, meaning it won’t add unwanted filtering to your sound"

really bad stuff

Just by looking at their GUI, you can see its completely unprofessionnal, it guess it sounds as bad as it looks

Yeah I've noticed when putting it on a kick drum the kick can loose most of its punch and have a hollow sound about it. Most noticeable with the 48 and 72 Slope settings.

it's logic effect, the more the slope is steep the more sonic artefacts you will have,

it's a common effect of band spliting tools and why many mutiband band dynamic tools use sweet filter slope to avoid this (but it brings others unwanted things too).

splitting an audio signal is all about compromise anyway

Cool.
Just curious what do you mean by "sweet slope to avoid this"?

like "classic" 12 or 18 dB/oct slope filter,

UAD multiband comp use this type of filter if I remember well. but it's not perfect too.

"I don't really hear any artifacts when creating a standard multiband compressor with the yoko, however I have found issues with it when creating a multiband comp with a parallel injector"

audio latency between the treated audio signal and the non treated audio signal that certainly create a sort of phasing artefacts ?

the phasing is due to a lack of pluggin latency compensation maybe ?

I noticed the same wahen using af-4's to create a highpass filter. Just adding a second af-4 to delay the normal signal worked, because they now had the same latency. I guess it's the same wit the yoko, So if you want to mix 2 signals, make sure they both go through a yoko, even if you don't use the splitter itself.

Glad to see I'm not the only one being bothered by this issue, I really didn't expect a dedicated band-splitting device to cause so much phase-shifting ! At least the stereo imager doesn't do this ...
