Hello
He started to wonder what denote LEDs in the master audio.

Lightbulb

Can I politely suggest you get a copy of the Operation Manual, check out the section on the SSL mixer/master, then ask if the answers not there. It'll be worth your while, you'll pick up a more rounded knowledge of the kit you're using.

Just to help you get started, that is the volume of the audio in decibels (dB) with 0dB being the maximum volume you should have when it's time to export your song. If you go above 0dB your final output will experience what is called "clipping".

Essentially anything that goes above that level will be cut off flat at 0dB when you export. The red lights indicate that if you export right now without adding a Limiter or turning down the Faders (the volume sliders), the audio you export will be clipped.

Oh, and the reason that you get more red lights as you add more instruments is that each one you add to your song adds to the volume shown there on the Master Fader.

You don't have to worry about it *too* much since it won't hurt you until you're ready to export, but when you see a lot of red lights on any of the indicators you should do something to try to get that signal under control. You'll have to learn by experience when you need to do that immediately and when you'll want that extra volume later on.

I hope that helps, but like TheFatControlleR said, you really need to learn on your own if you want to make good use of Reason. That manual is a good place to start, but there are plenty of text and video tutorials and other resources to help you figure it all out.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck!

There IS one additional thing to mention, and that is that the VU meters have their decibel values 'offset' by 12 dB (notice that 0 dB on the VU/Left side is equal to -12 dB on the Peak side) by default in Reason. This doesn't affect the meters in any way, it's just changing the decibel scale.

To get the decibel scale to match the Peak scale, set 'VU Offset" to 0 dB (in the Rack, Hardware Interface, Big Meter section). Otherwise, just remember that for the individual track meters (which use VU), the 0 dB point is -12 dB offset from where it 'really' is (unless you've reset it).

Also, peak levels are more important when trying to avoid clipping during mixing, so focus more on the peak level than the VU level. :-)
