Yeah I'm looking to upgrade my PC also..Tired Of my DSP going off the wall just cause I added 2 Antidotes..or 2 or 3 DEEP REVERBS ;-)

all I need to know is what CPU to get .. Haven't built a computer in over 4 years..I have no idea what's going on on that front these days.

I just built a new pc for reason.
i7 3770K
8GB 1330 RAM
Samsung 840 SSD
Windows 7 64Bit

Was making my 4th song since getting the computer up and running last night and got the 'computer too slow' message...

My FX chains get pretty crazy and I have CV everywhere

4X Antidotes
1X Ge-Tron
4X Biltley Platinum Combi's
2X ReDrum

5X RE2A
4X CV Tuner
1X Uhbik F
3X Echobode
3X TSAR1R
1X DCAM Env Shaper
4X ReSampler
5X Pulsar
3X Standard Envelope Filters
Plus a few more that I cant think of right now, at work so don't have access to Reason...

But yeah pretty beast now I look at that list (I was really disappointed when the msg came up last night, I just saved my song and went to bed..)

If you can, I really recommend an i7 3770 / 3770K.
A SSD drive makes an incredible difference to windows load times too

Check my system specs below. My DAW is about 8 months old, so a newer processor would be in order, but the rest of the components should be good still. I bought everything locally through Micro Center because prices were comparable to online parts houses. You may also want to consider having a system built by iBuyPower.com. They build PCs for gamers, but with the right sound card they are perfect for music production, too. Prices are competitive and they are guaranteed for three years! My PC is closely based on one of theirs.

HTH,

Richard

HTH,

Richard
I would have never bought your pc for Reason. Basically its just too slow for me. (Not trying to be arrogant here). I have a Core i7 920 from 3.5 years ago and am looking to build a newone now. The corei7 from 3.5 years ago is too slow for me (in comparison to , and according to benchmarks your CPU is about the same speed today.

CPU Mark Rank CPU Value Price
Intel Core i5-2500K @ 3.30GHz 6461 118 30.22 $213.79
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz 4989 193 13.34 $374.00

I would want:
Intel Core i7-3770K @ 3.50GHz 9630 30 31.37 $306.99

I have the current setup for my new pc, i still need to order because im not entirely sure about all parts yet:

1x Intel C+ore i7 3770K Boxed € 293,95
1x Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP7 € 359,-
1x Gigabyte GV-N65TOC-2GI € 154,75
1x Cooler Master Cosmos II € 289,95
1x Scythe Mugen 3 PC Games Hardware Edition € 34,99
1x Enermax Revolution85+ 850W € 199,10
1x OCZ Vertex 4 128GB € 105,99
Total € 1.437,73

Not sure about the PSU yet and I am not sure about the vertex 4 already bought one recenly maybe ill use thatone instead. I have a NAS for backup and space, and i have some other disks leftover for the space locally. I have alot of project on my current pc that refuse to run without plocks and clips and such, therefore i know i will need serious perfomance slaves like the Ivy Bridge & Core i7 to get it going again. but I use ALOT of RE's and expect alot from my pc. Maybe this is not the case for others and they can run fine with the degraded core i5

Not trying to be arrogant, maybe, but succeeding admirably. The first thing I said after "check my system specs" was that a newer processor would be in order. In any case, a solid-state hard drive, 16 Gb of DDR3 RAM, and a 2 Gb video card seem to make up for my PC's "obvious" shortcomings. I have yet to push CPU load above 30%. Cost without monitors was around $1100 USD. At today's dollar/Euro conversion rate yours would come in at nearly $1900.

Edited to add: Note also that my i5 2500K 3.3 GHz quad-core processor is gently overclocked to 3.5. This is a built-in feature of the mainboard, which would allow it to run at up to 3.8 GHz.
