Using Reason drum kits, how do I flam manually?

Hi All,

New to Reason, and cant figure out, when manually writing drums with RDK/sequencer, how to "write" a flam. I know how to do it with redrum, but cant seem to get a flam sound to occur.

Any tips/tricks?

Thanks!

I'm not a drummer, but a flam is just a few really rapid notes, yes? So I guess I would set the Snap to something real short (maybe 1/64?) and then draw in short little notes with a bit of space between them. (1/64 notes with 1/64 space between sounds sort of okay to me.) And then vary the velocities a bit.

Check out the Groove Mixer, it's great for that kind of thing.

You can draw in 1/64 notes (or copy a redrum midi notes track with flam onto the RDK track) Then if 1/64 doesn't cut it you can select the flam notes, hit F8 and "half" the tempo.

..or freehand them in, make a small clip on it's own MIDI track, change velocity on each hit as it 'decays'...

This is the best way.. also, set the loop markers close around the notes, play them on a continuous loop (take a break if it drives you nuts) and use ctrl-alt-arrow(left/right) or cmd-alt-arrow(left/right) to nudge each note by very small increments until it sounds the way you want it
