Smalltown Boy - Bronski Beat

Here my new instrumental: Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat. I made it because I discovered that this melody sound is Yamaha DX7 preset "Harp" and I bought last week RE PX7. It works very well

It sounds good but the melody and his vocals are what makes the song for me. But to comment on what you have aimed for - I think it's a great sounding job

It sounds great Chris.

What did you use for for the bass, strings etc?

Sounds great

Highlights how simple a song can be and be beautiful. The simplicity of the music contrasted with Jimm'y wonderful voice really made this sing.

I actually read "Broski Beat" and instantly clicked. Dreams were shattered when I re-read it, but I listened to it anyway.

It was a col track to listen to. Melodies were sweet, and I liked the type of production sound. It was clear to me.

I was thinking about covering this just a few days ago! The vocals would be tricky. I can hit the notes at the end, but not like Jimmy.

You did a great job. Very faithful to the original.

Yes, the voice of Jimmy Somerville is very characteristic. Falsetto voice but relative low, not so typical high like Philip Bailey. But You could try to cover it with Your vocal. It possible that few people would say they don't like it, but this risk is always when somewhere make a cover version.

Just like your Wham! covers, this one is simply brilliant! Your attention to detail is magnificent. One of the finest synth-pop tunes ever written, and you definitely did Steve Bronski & Jimmy Sommerville justice with your cover. Another job well-done.

Can't wait to hear what you tackle next. I love listening. Thanks for posting it!

Cheers,

J
