Cool stuff ddrex I have played around with a few animation programs myself and really enjoyed it, always liked the idea of syncing it with my own music too.

Your videos are cool it's good to see someone doing it with Reason, can I trouble you to explain how you synced the two together?

Hope you don't mind me jumping in Jagwah.

I use Sony Vegas for my video stuff. And although I'm no expert and could use much more practice, at syncing Video to Audio.
Most video editing programs layout the Audio track on a timeline, where you can simply drop the video in on a parallel track.

So you can use the BassDrum or Snare transients as a cue to sync video clips or transitions visually. There are also tools in most Video Editing suites to slow down or speed up the video; kinda like audio time stretching. So with a little work, you can almost flawlessly SYNC video and audio. However, as I said before. It does take some practice and patience.

The first thing I would say is that I make the music before the video. So when setting up the song I choose either 60 or 120 bpm. This makes things easy for animation programs working in frames per second or video editing software. At 60 bpm, 1 beat is 1 second and 24 or 25 frames depending on format (I use 24), so then a 4 beat section of music is 96 frames and a 1/4 note is 6 frames.
Also I load the waveform into the project to be able to sync some important sonic events even if they are off beat.
Then repeating scenes can just be copied and pasted multiple times.
It's quite a time consuming process, and requires some planning but then most video work needs planning.
Another technique that can be used for certain situations is using a program like Resolume but that goes a bit beyond the scope of this short reply and the explanations will be a bit different in a few weeks! in any case I would be only to happy to give extra details either via PM or video tutorial. But maybe they are some more interesting topics for videos to cover at the start of may

Thanks for the info guys.

It makes sense to just drop video clips on the beat but I always thought that was no good because it doesn't 'snap' automatically to the exact position of an audio transient, or simply drop at a bar position, I should probably give it another go.

Wow @ Resolume, this is cool I need to look into this some more. With a program like this and Reason's soon to be midi-out capabilities or even SDK 2.0 surely soon something really interesting will be possible, maybe even in a few weeks!

Thanks again, off to look into Resolume some more.
