Song that got away

Anyone start a song idea only to seem to fight it, even abandon it, because it's just not evolving into anything worthy?

Ah, so I'm not alone. I created cover art thinking that would get me inspired and rolling on the title song (as heard in my footer). But it never evolved how I had hoped, and layering more stuff is not making me happy nor approaching anything I'd officially release. Gaaah... Might be time to trash that one and bundle more completed works.

Instead of trashing it, how about taking half the tracks and putting them into a new song and deleting them from the first. Maybe every other one or something.
Another idea: save as a new song and change the patch of each instrument randomly.

The second idea is how I made this out of a rex file and two pianos, heh

Great ideas! I am now reminded of Brian Eno's "Oblique Strategies" for getting unstuck! I just downloaded and installed that Widget of musical witticism

I think this is a natural part of the creative process ... save the song and move on.

It's worth keeping all the unfinished attempts and returning to them at some point in the future to see if any can be combined to produce a more complete or finished piece. You may be struck by a new wave of creativity that just didn't happen first time around.

Well I always try to use every idea. Even if song doesn't sound epic, I record it anyway, and trying to tune it up. Catched idea always grows stronger, if you will abandon it, it won't grow ^^

But mby it's because I don't have to many ideas ^^

Hi everyone first post here loving this place!

It's a nightmare when something that starts well goes to the wall and you end up hating it, happens to me all the time. Perseverance however can pay dividends on occasion. I recently struggled for days on a song but kept going away and coming back to it, finally the pieces dropped into place and it was a great moment when it was done
