why are physical limitations faithfully modelled?

i'm trying to understand why physical limitations are so faithfully modelled in reason.

example: you have 10 instruments for the drum machine, but you can never see the 10 patterns. this should be fairly obvious. something like idrum for the mac lets you see everything that's going on. wouldn't it make some sense to have a line for each of the instruments you are using in the drum machine, so you can visually see what's going on? why would we be so obsessed with making things look and feel like physical instruments with their physical limitations? it's not hard to imagine a drum machine with 10 lanes of buttons, one for each sound.

I think it was the familiarity factor that they were after: model it after an actual analog style drum machine and people will intuitively understand it.

That said, you can create as many ReDrums as your machine can handle so...

Are you saying that you want more sample patches on each ReDrum (more than 10)?


I've waited 20+ years to see this...

I think he's saying there should be a pattern lane for each of the ten channels, all visible and editable at once. You know, like FL Studio?
