The US gave us the music, sure. But the UK added drugs and gave birth to acid house and club culture (see also 60s Northern Soul). We're a shitty, rainy little country… but drugs and clubs is something we excel at :-p
Great songs... I remember that Inner City track then later thought Black Box ripped them off. It was a good couple of years until Snap brought that style to the pop mainstream in America.

That Inner City track sounds relevant today. Awesome.

Anyone know how the 909 in that Gat Decor song was processed? It is almost ludicrously huge.

UK also mostly developed Synthpop, partially derived from Disco/Giorgio Moroder/Patrick Cowley type stuff with some early American Electo/Freestyle influences. There were/are some great groups in America and Germany but the UK is still the king of the hill in that genre.

Funny thing about "nationalist" music discussions is they ignore the fact that all music is inspired by something else and musical styles go back and forth across countries and continents and continue to cross-pollinate and evolve. It's a beautiful thing, really. You can talk about amazing scenes where the music bubbled up into incredible booms of creativity, though. Detroit Techno is one. Acid House is certainly another. Northern Soul, Drum and Bass, Grunge, West Coast Rap... there are so many, but even in these styles there are contributions from far afield, even if they are primarily localized at first.

So, what do you guys think of 808 State...

I have the grey vinyl "90" as well as Stakker Humanoid with different versions. Awesome! Nice to see people with good taste here. :-)

Yeah, the 90's were great. I bought a lot of vinyls then.

I don't like the track in the OP. please don't lynch me, just an opinion, i listened right through twice, i find it very.. want to put me to sleep, monotone, and boring.

BUT what do i know? one of my favorite electronic tracks of all time, probably in my top 5, is urban cookie collectives' "the key the secret".. and many people hate that track

Also, THK - France is in my top 20.

Meh.

Best electronic track ever made?

Really, there's only one for consideration:

That woman was a genius! Sure Ron had the idea, but Delia made it happen, truly inspirational.
