If you post specifics about your setup: OS, MAC/PC/LAPTOP, audio interface that would help. Also, if you can post some screenshots of the audio device, sequencer, and the 'random inputs'.
Meanwhile, here are some common problems:
Windows Laptop: audio interface conflicts with network adapter - solution: turn off network while using the audio interface and see if that helps.
ALL: audio interface drivers not properly installed: if you plug the audio interface into the computer before installing the drivers, it will get getup as a general USB device and not an audio interface and might not work properly - solution: unplug audio interface, uninstall audio interface drivers, reboot, install audio interface drivers, plug in audio interface (it's not a bad idea to download the drivers from manufacturer's site to make sure you have the current ones and the proper ones for your OS) (also try this solution if it was once working and now it does not work.)
Windows: Missing ASIO drivers - solution: install ASIO4ALL (some interface drivers have their own asio drivers, others require you to install asio separately.)
Windows, maybe MAC: some audio interfaces have issues when plugged into USB3 support - solution: plug into USB2 port ---- could also be an issue if you plug a USB2 audio interface into an older USB1 port.
