I TOTALLY agree with this post.

This is the main problem with modern music production - we do it in isolation a lot.

If you imagine a band situation, often times the songwriter will have full song ie melody and words written to be 'filled in' by the rythm section in practice.

Great answers and ideas everyone. I think I am going to try an start songs from different areas then drums and bass...it makes more sense starting with melody or some chords or both before laying down the rhythm section.

You might also just try muting the drums/bass for a while if you have an idea you like but you don't want to hear it running incessantly will you work on another instrument. It might take some work to get them to mesh afterward, but it shouldn't be as bad as editing it 10 different times after hearing it hundreds of times, and it's better than ignoring and forgetting a good idea.

Yeah it happens quite often. When you listen to anything over and over again you'll eventually get tired of it and that length of time depends on factors such as the groove and the effects. It's also normal to go back and try to fix something that ain't broke when we should be moving forward with the splash of ideas onto the canvas.
