There are two kinds of people.. those who say you can't do something, and those who go out and do it anyways.

Actually there are four types of people.
Those who say you can't do it.
Those who say you can.
Those who listen to those who are talking and respond accordingly,
and.....

Those who just do what they want/need to do.

Grum

I definitely understand where you're coming from but the way I see it, every music production hardware or software leaves something to be desired. Maybe not so much when you first start using it, but when you have learned it to the point where you can push it to the very limits of what it can do. Regardless of the way they promote the product we all know it has a lot of short coming compared to a traditional DAW. Personally I hate the sequencer in Reason, I just plain don't like the feel of it. Normally I like to use a lot of different instruments to curb the monotony of JUST REASON.

Masters make toys of their equipment.

If you think your equipment is a toy, you must be a master.

If you aren't a master, then your equipment isn't a toy yet.

So - are you a millionaire from your songs yet?

Well simple answer (sorry for renewing the topic).
Every music program you can call "a toy". In reason everything is simplify but still, you can create great music in it, like many of great and popular artists. Factory sound bank lack of many instruments, and quality. Like guitars, silk sounds etc. But you have a lot of profesional refills and now rack extantions. To bad they are expensive as hell! But here we are.
Following, reason has the best user interface, native racks controll and stability I'v ever seen. Creating music in reason is 100% joy. Other programs are painfully even with updates.

There is only one thing in reason that should be realy improved... mixing and mastering! No spectrum!!!! (ok you can use 1 device for spectrum but it is to complicated). Realy to simply equalizer (only 4 points) and compressor.
This equalizer without "Q" and visuality in master mix is realy a pain.

Hope rack extensions price will go a bit down! :P

It's not a toy - bit late in the day but that's like saying simple music is for simple people but sometimes simple music can be better or on par with complex productions....the question is, what daw can YOU work with? It's up to you, to produce the music. When you take away the absurdity of life, it does not matter what anyone says but you and the people who appreciate what you create.

To answer the direct question is Reason a Toy?

Yes it is! My favourite toy, I have lots of fun with it and I'd have been very happy if Santa had left it in my stocking.
