Reason Crash

Hello

I am thinking of saving up my money to buy Reason 6

I use Sonar x1 at the moment - work flow is ok but i downloaded a demo of reason and i prefer its flow and now it has RE bingo!

Can we be honest with this - do you users have issues with it "crashing" files missing and generally a pain in the hoot to work with ?

thanks

Reason has always been a very stable package, but the latest update has caused some problems to some users, not all of us, but not crashes or missing files, more CPU usage problems than anything else. There is a new beta currently being tested that should fix the current issues. In other words, go for it.

The demo here is not at all different from the full version. It is the full version but you cannot export or open saved files.

V 5.0 was the only one that crashed on me. But only once.

This is entirely dependant on your systems specs.
Usually you'll get a polite notice 'Your Computer is too slow to play this song', but it won't crash.
Reason is beta'ed to death before a new version comes out. Rack Extensions are designed not to drag the rest of Reason down with it should they fail so Propellerheads are rarely to blame if something goes wrong.
I think the hardest I've pushed my i7 machine was when I remixed 'Let's go' by Calvin Harris. From memory that had 26 tracks of 24 Bit Audio and pretty much the same again in Reason devices. This is overkill for most projects. The first thing to go was the disk read speed - a 7200rpm hard drive can only read so much at once. The DSP meter shows how hard your processor is being hit, this was on about 4 bars at most, so more room there. If I had an SSD I'm sure I would have been able to take it even further, but it would have just got silly. It depends what kind of devices you're using and what spec of machine you're using them on, but if I wanted to take the project further I had the option to bounce the tracks down to a new audio file, remove the devices from the master and replace them with the bounced audio.
Reason is pretty bulletproof on most systems but as soon as anyone finds a problem with a particular configuration an update is never far behind.
In short, Reason is awesome.

been using Reason since 2001. ( where are my prestige points ? )

I can't ever remember it crashing ( maybe once ) and I think it was a windows issue.
