I've checked out her current setup. For what she paid she is making some great stuff. Its just the base maschine package along with Reaper, the choices she made on the free VSTs sound really good to my ears. Saved a lot of cash and if she decides to move to another platform she can take her synths and effects with her. She's curious about LIVE of course.

Yeah so there are free VSTs.

There are also loads of free Refills.

Good luck updating those free VSTs in years to come. The free refills however, will keep working.

Reason works out of the box without any REs. REs are additional, optional, third party enhancements to an already brilliantly working system, just as third party VSTs are to Logic or 3rd party apps are to a Mac.
Apple computers are insanely over priced though.

Live is a lot of fun. I use it with Reason.

With Reason everything updates for you. All your instruments and effects and Rack Extensions. REs are a bigger hit upfront, but you're never paying for those upgrades years later when operating systems change.

Apple are changing their OS every year now?! Keeping up is expen$ive...

With that kind of policy, Reason seems like a more attractive investment than spreading yourself out with multiple software companies.
Yeah that's an OSX almost exclusive issue. Most of my stuff from windows XP still works on 7. I skipped Vista.

Comparing a refill to a vst is like comparing Thor to Soul School. One is an instrument one isn't

AGain there are 3 options and if people can't deal with the 3 then obviously something is wrong with that person, I chose the render to disk. I have a bunch of high top VSTi's you don't see me here complaining about we should have VST, because why? I DON'T WANT TO COMPROMISE CPU STABILITY AND WHAT WE HAVE WITH OUR FLOW WHICH IS NICE" All about flow right?

Some one riddle me this, if you love VSTs so dam much and Reason don't have it, why did you get Reason in the first place? Use the DAW that takes VSTs and be done with it. Ohhhhhh cause you want Reason right? Well if VSTs is so important stay on the side of town with the VSTs. No program is perfect that's why you should have at least two. Riddle me this, are these same people bytching in the DAW forums about the DAW's not being like Reason? I just gotta ask this question. Why is it people wanna force the issue of VSTs here? If Props is the second behind Avid is sales how is PH doing bad? I don't get it.

Props is not a DAW and being that no VSTS!!!!

What's going to happen is probably

1. Midi out, not for sure but that looks promising, which won't mess up CPU AND STABILITY

2. Adding Recycle into Reason instead of it being a stand alone.

3. Better editing, this is far more important, makers things like that.

4. Group fader implemented within Reason

5. PH make at least two more hot synths with more sounds that can compete with top joints out there like Omnisphere, or Nexus2, or Gladiator, etc.

6. Turning Audio into midi, this type of thing would change Reason forever being there are only 3 other programs that can do this. Do most even know what you can do with this type of technology? YOu won't need a VST ever if this was implemented!!!

7. Upgrade the Mastering suite, add a Phase scope, spectrum analyzer and a polar analizer so you can keep your peaks and valleys in check.

8. Build a dedicated controller for Reason, this maybe an open option but a lot of people like this idea!!!

9. One more high class Reverb that's off the hook, though I have no complaints about the RV7000, this would be nice.

10. Improve Doc Oct to using 8 different samples simultaneously and conform to the tempo with AUTOMATIC QUANTIZE!!! And able to drag and drop each loop to an individual track!!!

I would rather these 10 than some VSTs into reason. Reason is a Beast now with those ten I mentioned you wouldn't need to think about VSTs, really not now. And probably some more legitimate implements made by others but this VST thing isn't really going to help or break PH, if it was about dough Reason wouldn't be the second best seller behind Avid. I like to build, use presets and tweak my sounds, and you have the ability to do all three with Reason refills.
men you should be a reason prophet in reason 7 alot of your points came true

------------

I actually like it when folks express their ideas on what can improve something without coming off like gearslutz users. Otherwise you can become like (some) apple users, who are actually convinced that mini SD memory slots are bad for portable devices, even though they have been a staple on devices for over 10 years.

There are certain basic standards that should have been implemented on reason a long time ago without a long term upgrade milk plan or '$99 per real addition' grab, and finally in 2012/2013 they figured they couldn't hold back any longer. It is what it is. Nice suggestion Danoc. You can still absolutely LOVE Reason and at the same time wish upon a little star.
