Vocoder effect in Reason?? "California Love" by 2Pac

Just trying to figure out a way to replicate the Talkbox Vocoder effect that is being used in the Track by 2Pac, California Love.

http://youtu.be/uWbXQQG9B6c

Im wondering if anyone has had any success with it beofre.

What sort of sound should i use to feed the BV512 Voder in reason to get that unique effect on the vocal.

Thanks in Advance

It's easy!
You need:
- Subtractor Sine-Wave
- Midi Keyboard
- A Ghetto Talkbox
- Audio cables
- a mic

--> It is not a Vocoder FX!

Thanks for the response.

Awh. So it can not be done under the Reason Umbrella. I would need a talkbox piece of hardware?? I would have presumed it was some type of Vocoding that Reason could somehow manage

Well there is an Idea for the PHeads for an RE.

Talkbox

I think from reading an article from producer Teddy Riley (a big Roger Troutman fan), he said what Roger used was a:

Heil Talkbox (these go for a few hundred bucks).
Yamaha DX100 synthesizer (for the carrier tone).

I think a big part of the sound of these things are the lo finess of the technology. Talkboxes were basically almost crude vocoders, and it was important to articulate the words in them properly. I don't know how possible it would be to get it one hundred percent.

I don't know how easy it would be too emulate, but I would think using low bands to simulate the lo-finess of the effect, using a Sawtooth wave (maybe a not so bright one though), and maybe playing with the bands to accent the midrange. Pronouncing the words is probably a big part too. They probably need to be spoken in a way that it similar in how the modulation is done through the talkbox. That is probably the even trickier part.

A little chorusing might help to.

Cheers. I had a quick look through that, but I was hoping Propellerhead might have the answer under the hood of Reason somewhere. After all, that what these soft studios are claiming these days, that they can emulate any of their hardware counter parts. Plus anything that takes away from music creativity in writing music, the PHeads like to tackle those issues for us.

I've emailed James Bernard at ProductSpecialists. So hopefully he gets it and can figure this one out. I don't think there is anything that can beat James Bernard when it comes to Reason. It's a chance for him to "have some fun" as he likes to say

Cool ideas there, tnx. I will have a mess around with those concepts when I get to my studio (bedroom) later on.

Sure can it be done with Reason!!!

You only need a Sine-Waveform Synth, your mouth to form the sound, some cables, a mic and a really cheap ghetto talkbox! Nowadays you can record your voice in Reason, right???

Ahhh, I understand, you will pay for a RE that will do tha job!
Ok, most DAW-users have a soundcard, a DAW (maybe Reason), a mic, cables.

You only need a talkbox (on ebay about 50 - 70 bucks NEW)... or a ghetto talkbox for 10 bucks, search youtube!

You never get a VST or RE that can emulate a talkbox!
Thats a fact, buy a little piece of hardware and thats it.

Zapp, Roger, Bon Jovi are all use a talkbox!
