Yup, I've always understood their choice and line of thought even though I never agreed with it.

Also true is that now, there's going to be a bunch of always-in-the-box users, totally oblivious to the usual MIDI latency issues that will complain that "my new MS-20 mini doesn't sound as tight as SubTractor when played by Reason!!!" kinda threads

oh well, like I said, it's not for everyone but at least now it's there for those that really missed it.

You're also able to select which MIDI Channel you're sending MIDI out, so if your JV1080 is multitimbral (allows various patches to be played at the same time on different MIDI Channels) then you're able to play as many as it allows (usually up to 16, 1 timbral per MIDI Channel)

If those expansion cards are selected through MIDI LSB/MSB Bank changes, although this not being a complete MIDI Standard, there's a way to select those too, but this needs to be checked (because it's not 100% standard).

Quick notes:
  • Polyphony is the amount of voices ("Notes") you're able to play with 1 patch (1 "sound").
  • A multitimbral instrument allows various different patches ("sounds") to be played simultaneously, usually by assigning 1 patch per MIDI Channel and/or a key range.

.
Thanks for the clarification, I am so rusty with my midi theory having been using reason for so long, I am excited to refresh and re-learn.... while the stock jv 1080 sounds are mediocore at best compared to reason, the expansion cards had some unique sounds to the era that they were produced in. Seems like on ebay, the expansion cards fetches more than the hardware unit

Slutligen! Endlich! Eindelijk! Finally! Midi-out

To the folks at Propellerhead, a heartfelt thanks. As all can see from this lengthy and quite-old forum topic, a large part of many folks' frustration with Reason has been lifted.

Can't wait to try it out with my Moog Voyager, Alesis A6, and Korg Kronos!!! Tack så mycket!!

Cheers!

So Korg releases the MS-20 mini and Propellerhead are including midi-out in the next upgrade...

... Hell hath frozen over and my wallet just bought a one way ticket on the polar express.

In all honesty though, I half expected midi-out to be round the next corner. With the inclusion of audio and then rack extensions, Props had already knocked down the garden wall. Frankly it just seemed weird (perhaps even sadistic) to maintain the old ethos on the inclusion of midi-out.

And so it would seem that the propellerhead team has truly embraced a new, or at least extended philosophy; and so far I have no complaints whatsoever.

In fact, I feel like a kid at Christmas, and the lights on the tree are all midi controlled

Thanks Ceefax. I will get in first and wish you a happy Xmas. Are you planning to use MIDI out in live productions? Midi has been out to files for a very long time. I can't see what export of MIDI from Rex is really for, but I don't have ReCycle so perhaps miss the point.
