Unhappy O/T: Ravi Shankar

Ravi Shankar, Indian sitar maestro, dies

Indian sitar maestro Ravi Shankar has died in a hospital in the US, aged 92. (BBC)

Ravi Shankar's music was a world apart from the hippy culture that embraced it

The Beatles and the Rolling Stones experimented with the sitar and helped popularise Indian music. But Ravi Shankar knew western audiences could never fully understand it (Guardian - Tariq Ali)

Growing up as a child of hippies, Ravi Shankar was more first introduction to non western music. RIP Ravi.
