Every new version of Reason has a new file format because they have to change the format to support the new features.

Newer versions of Reason can open files created in older versions, but not the other way around.

Reason 4 files were named ending in .rns, record files .record, and now reason 6 files .reason

You should be able to open your Reason 4 (.rns) and your Record (.record) files in Reason 6 -- start Reason and use 'file >> open'.

They will open and be converted (upgrade) to Reason 6 format.

If that doesn't answer your question or solve your problem, please post more information on exactly what type of file(s) you are trying to open and which program and version you are using to try and open it.
