Unhappy Ancient browser

Any news about a fix for this terrible problem?
It takes me 7 minutes just to open the browser!!
Re-installed Reason 6.5.3 on a brand new 500GB
Samsung 840 SSD, still incredibly slow!!

Also, if I open one of the last songs in the File
menu, it opens fast, but if I go to Open file, it
takes several minutes just to get to the list of
saved songs!

I emailed PH support about a possible improvement in R7, but sadly, the reply was "The Reason browser has not been changed in Reason 7, I'm afraid."
Well, that's bad news... This really s*cks a lot !
Lately I moved all my sample collections to a unique USB key, to avoid tedious switching between CDs and DVDs. Browsing samples was already slow but I blamed my DVDs especially, since they contain lots of data. But even with my USB key, it's still AWFULLY slow... and therefore totally counter-productive.
I really believe that this browser could be way better, possibly by letting the user select which details they want to show. For instance, I never had any use of date, time and size of the files.
Another idea would be to index folders and files. But it seems like Propellerheads never encountered any speed issues with the browser. Can't believe they never improved this.

Reason 7 should be past feature freeze now, so it's not gonna change in that.

It might change in 7.5 though.

There's no reason (no pun intended) for the slow down, except Propellerhead engineers taking a shortcut and using a naive file manager implementation.

I would go for a more complete overhaul though, adding stuff like tags (e.g "brass", "agressive", etc, whatever arbitrary) and progressive real-time search on the browser.

Tags would be great indeed !
Yeah, they HAVE to rebuild the browser from scratch - but I highly doubt they will. It hasn't really changed a lot since a few years...
Seriously, how come not one single guy in their staff has ever suggested to improve that ? Can't believe it.

Let's pray for Reason 7.5 then.

I guess they took the gamble of moving forward with other things, thinking that users will overlook this frustration for a while longer because of the rest of the awesomeness.

Which is true, I will put up with it. But it will probably be my number one feature request for 7.5.

on my system the filebrowser is only slow if you have more than about 200 files in one folder (or too much folder in a folder).
So, if possible split your items in separate folder....thats maybe a workaround

That would be a solution indeed, but it would be way too tedious to achieve, since I have 100+ folders.
Anyway, for what it's worth, I've just found a little trick ! Instead of opening folders by clicking on the small "+" icon, it's way faster to double-click the folder name. Might sound silly but I had never thought of doing it that way !
Then, to browse back to any parent folder, simply pick the one you want in the dropdown list above.

It's not a workaround when there are refills with a lot of files inside...
