A track with me singing on it...

Hola peeps.

Been a while since I've been on here. Hope everyone is well and surviving the post-new year blues of January!

Don't expect this track to cheer you up… for start it's a melancholic trip-hop number (inspired by the likes of Portishead and Massive Attack). And secondly it has me singing on it O_o

Grateful for any feedback, as always.

I like the song.I like the first violin, but the bridge strings, or arpeggiating strings don't sound (not composition wise but tone quality) as good as the rest of the sounds you use in the song. That's just my opinion, but I like the over all result.

Nice vocals mix! Agree with the poster above; arpeggio strings sounds stand out a bit 'cheap'. But love the solo violin at the end. keep on going!

Hi Pat303, I like it much, what I heard. I think that substituting a synth for the strings would be cool too. Well done and keep up the good work!

^ Thanks to you all for the feedback! Genuinely appreciated.

Scoob and Gryv: very good point about the strings. I used various Reason combinator patches, and while they sound ok for the longer notes, they don't work so well on the quicker, more arpeggiated sections (in fact they sound almost like a brass section!). So I totally agree with you. I think Billy has a good point about replacing some of the strings with a synth too... that's a nice idea that I might try next time I open the file.

Anyway, thanks again guys. Very encouraging comments :-)

What a natural sounding strings. I like the drums and believe it or not - I like your singing too. I think that the strings and pads should be a tad quieter - because they sound so front. But yeah, a very nice tune this.

Thumbs up

Great tune Paul! Your vocals are really crisp and nice sounding. I like the contrast the strings bring to the rest of the track. Enjoyed it!

Thanks! Very kind of you to say so. I'm no singer but I'm always happy to try... good to hear you like it. Yeah, I think you may be right about the strings - I wanted them to be nice and strong in the mix, but I use headphones so it's sometimes difficult to judge the correct balance. Anyway, glad you dig it :-)
