Fidelity loss when exporting to wav

Hi, apologies if this has been posted elsewhere before but my problem is this:

When I'm working in Reason the tune sounds really dynamic, sparkling and wide - then when I export to wav and listen back to it sounds a bit naff....lifeless like the top end's been taken off a bit and not very wide......does anyone else have this problem. I've tried a few different export settings but with the same results.

Try importing the wav into Reason and listen there.
Sounds different?

What are you using to play the exported wav?

Just gave that a whirl, when I import it into Reason it sounds the same as when I listen to it in Windows Media Player (in answer to your question n0ahg) which is not quite the same as it did in the project file. So it's not the method of playback, it's definitely something getting lost on export. It's most obvious on the high -hats, they don't come out as sharp at the top end if ya gets me

Are you exporting at 16 or 24 bit

...and what's the sample rate you're using on your audio interface?

If your interface is set to 48K 24bit, 96K 24bit/32bit, etc.. (i.e. anything higher than the export) and you export the song to 44.1K/16bit (i.e. anything lower than what you get out of the audio interface when playing the Reason file), you're expected to "loose something" in the process.

You know this, right? (just checking)

I'll check to see what the interface is set to later but I always export at the highest resolution I can. I'm listening to the wav using Windows Media Player so not burning to CD (which would be optimal at 44.1k/16bit) so had no problem with exporting at the highest setting.

Export to the same kHZ and bit rate as your settings in Reason. If you want the export to sound exactly the same then export to the same setting as you have in Reason.
