That's actually good advice and an interesting fact - thanks!

I might just order a new set this time. :S

I just looked up the dt770's... they look a tad too pillow-cushiony aesthetically, but I wouldn't be out on the street with them, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I'm a bit confused about the 3 versions they offer on Amazon though;
250/32/80 OHM versions, $170/$250/$200 respectively.

They received excellent reviews in sound & durability, but of course I'd be afraid to discover I like the sound of my Ultrasones more...

What's the Ohm thing about, and would I be ok with, say, the 80OHM versus 250?
And it looks like the pad material is a crushed velvet-type cloth? Then no cracking I presume :P

The DT770's sell for 3 times the price of my ATH-M40fs. I think I'll stick with them - thanks though!

yes the ohm are the independance , if you buy some headphones for I-pods 16ohm is the right power and if you buy them for computer 32ohm, for a sound card 50ohm to be more clear 250 ohm would be for synth hardware power or something because a 16 ohm would blow up on a synth lol . and the more ohm the more volume you will have to put on the interface but the more solid and clear they will be .

I would say that the new model they made at 16 ohm the (custom one pro) are perfect but I'm sared they would not be good for monitoring sound . I dont no I havent try them yet .
but the dt 770 are natural and dont make the sound more beautifull that it is .

it all depends on your ears really , I got two cheap headphones to make my music that give me punch and I only use the dt 770 to check the results at the end or to isolate myself with a cd and to have warm ears and look myself in a bubble .
the dt770 are good but maybe 2 natural for some peoples that are used to have over strong bass and highs that is 2 low but it's a very nice product .

dont buy any headphones without trying anyway that is not a wise thing !

tru but it's the pilots brand
they are not cheap but I love them they the only ones I have finded that give me a natural sound (to my ears)
apart from the cold natural sounds I think the good point is there resistence and comfortability!

Thanks charlycharlzz for the education (:

I have an old pair of AKG studio K240s (55 OHMs)... But while it sounds nice and has clean highs and a good ambiance altogether, there is like NO bass to be spoken for, so in the end, I don't care for them anymore.

I see my Ultrasones are 32 ohms... makes me curious how "bad" a leap to 250 ohms would be, but anyway, it's lame that the 32 ohm DT770 cost $250.

I'm not sure what I'll do... perhaps a few months from now I'll splurge on the 32 ohm DT770 and see how I like the sound. I can always return them.

Yhea well dt-770 80hms would be more for dudes that use them on a lot of diferent sound source for exemple ; guitar or bass emp or dj mixtable , pc , sound card , mix board and synths because all these got different power outputs and amps system.

32ohm would be perfect for Balance or those type of sound cards and would be verygood into direct audio out from computers .

I would say that dt-770 dont have much bass it's more a natural sound for sound design and it's hard to do the mixing with them if you try to focus on drums and stuff , for that use I would say take some headphones that are made to lissen music on like them new beyerdynamic (custom one pro) these are crazy my friend and can give you crazy results , order them first if it's for global sound work because dt770 is more to design sounds or to check a mix when you finished at the very end to see the real sound then to work with them all the session .

custom one pro are not a studio model but for using on a computer or a home studio sound card you even may have better results http://north-america.beyerdynamic.co...m-one-pro.html worth trying before dt770 unless you whant a pair only to check details now and then and work with another pair model . dt770 is really the ultimate to check things but I rather use my sony mdr-v150 at 20 euros to make the beat first (more power , more the hi-fi norm) so I may get those custom one pro .
