what is the best book to read about learning reason 6.5.3?

hello, after reading all/most of the reviews on amazon/other places regarding books about learning how to use reason, most of the books fall short...'going pro with reason 6.5' by gw childs, 'reason 6 ignite' by gw childs, 'reason 6 power' by michael prager, 'power tools for reason 6' by andrew eisele...i am looking for more than just overviews on what the devices do, i am more into intermediate/advance techniques about how to wire stuff up/together in the back of the rack...any advice? i just bought 'music theory for the computer musician' by michael hewitt and so far so good...
thanks, jeffrey

Peff's book "Power Tools for Reason 3" is supposed to be really good.

It has to be the Peff version, not later versions.

The user manual is also a good choice.

+1 on the Holy Manual. It explains a lot.

"Going Pro with Reason 6.5" seems to be the latest weapon of choice. It's pretty new to amazon but the only review on there is favourable. At the end of the day you learn more from doing if you ask me.

If you have a good understanding how to make tracks in Reason I would suggest that you buy some books on mixing instead (if you want to have better sounding mixes). "The Art of Mixing"by David Gibson and "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" by Bobby Owsinski are great books and really helped me to improve my mixes.
If using Reason is still a hard task for you (routing cables, ect...) then yeah stick to learning more about Reason. The best book you can read to learn more about Reason is free! The manual is over a thousand pages long and you can learn some great things in there ( I have ). Before you buy a book on Reason why not give the manual a try.

hello, thanks a bunch for your answers...i checked out the synopsis of Peff's power tools for reason 3.0 it seems to be comprehensive and have the audio cd which is beneficial...i've been spending time with the manual, too but like hands on 'projects' and samples to try out...i grabbed most of the .rns project files from the 'discovering reason' online tutorials... does anyone know where to get a copy of peff's power tools for reason 4.0 (if it exists/still exists) does he plan to do a version for reason 6? sorry to keep asking questions but my funds are low...thanks again...jeffrey

The Peff book is for Reason 3, not for Reason 4.

There is a Reason 4 version of the book, but it's not by Peff.

If you want the CD content, you can get it form his site...

hello, i downloaded the cd content from the website you supplied, thanks. however, it didn't 'unrar' completely successfully so i don't know if i'm missing anything...i'm on a win 7 pc 64bit using winrar...however, i did find a used copy on amazon with the cd for 10$ so i'm pretty stoked...should arrive friday...

also, i sent an email to mr. peff at his website regarding the existence of power tools for reason 4 and any plans for a version 6...so..if any one else knows how to get into faster contact with him it would be a nice question to ask him...i use reason to teach high school students math and English (we do environmental/sustainability hiphop)
thanks, jeffrey
