If you *need* an interface, buy one -- if you are looking for 'next generation', wait for it.

I have an original generation m-audio mobile Pre, which is a USB 1.2 device that works perfectly plugged into a USB 2 port, and which provides excellent stereo output, and excellent mono in from my mic, while providing phantom power.

As much as I'd like a new interface, and as much as I would probably appreciate an upgrade to something like Balance, I have no problem to solve with an audio interface upgrade, so I'll just hold at status quo.
